Every round has got its deadline, as explained on the index. Every 8th round I will host a special Best Of The Best Round, where the best three all the Best Video's of the previous 8 rounds will be decided with a poll. I'll include a Best Vidder category.
-What I look for in a vid-
|
Obviously, this part of the rules is not meant to be a guide or something like that, I only want to point out the things I look at in a video, this way you'll know the reason why I didn't give you an award, or why I did. My judgment is clouded by my personal preferences in the field of course, so it can be probably different from many other vidders, and I thought it would be a good idea to write things down for you all :)
Things I like: - Good timing: this the MOST important thing for me. It comes before storyline or narrative. I'd say it's fundamental. If the mains beats are not respected I usually end up not liking the vid at all, even if you made a good job building up a story. - Good quality: if you have a good quality vid please give me the link to that. I can't appreciate low definition vids, really. - Choice of song: another main point. I like when there's real thought behin the choice of the song. If you go for the usual Linking Park, Evanescence and stuff like that you have to make a good or original editing or something to make the vid stand out, otherwise it'll probably look like all the other clones. - Effects: I'm not a declared fan of effects. I like them when they are somewhat justified in the vid, when they underline some beats, or words or they make out the style of the whole thing. I don't like them much when they are totally random. But of course when they are done well they are always a pleasure to watch! Only remember that their only PRESENCE doesn't make the vid worth an award.
Things I don't like: - Talky faces: that's a thing that I can't stand, it's the worst thing EVER. Please avoid putting talking people in your vids because it really distracts from the flow, it ruins the whole thing. Sometimes it can be justified, I use them on some occasions, but NEVER when the face of the people in question is the main focus of the camera for whole seconds! - Loooooong songs: sometimes when the song is too long (more than 4 mins) and the editing is flat or the clips used are kind of longish, the whole thing, even if it starts good, begins to get boring at half vid or so. So try editing the song, I do that often to cut parts of it out, and the song gets to be more manageable. - Loooong scenes: what's the point of making a vid if you cram WHOLE sequences into it? Tight editing makes the vid more exciting, otherwise is like watching parts of an episode set to a piece of music. - Lost frames: those frames that are attached to clips you used, only that they belong to the following or the previous scenes. Even one only compromises the viewing for me, because it's telling of the quality of the whole video. - No slideshows.
Ok that's it for me. Only take those as tips, and reasons why I give awards to a few vids. I'm really hard on myself when i make my stuff and I tend to be like that with other vids too! So don't take anything personally, just accept my gift to you in form of a little gif :)
